Tanker Vessels

Tankers are vessels designed to transport or store liquids such as oil, refined products and chemicals in bulk. They are a relatively new concept, dating from the later years of the 19th century. The oil industry first used tankers to transfer refined fuel in bulk from refineries to customers, which was stored in large shore tanks and broken up into smaller lots for delivery. The use of tankers eventually caught on because other liquids were also cheaper to transport in bulk, store in dedicated terminals, then subdivide.
